After witnessing the wonder of Pukeiti Gardens, you will be departing from the slopes of Mount Taranaki. You will descend through the trees brimming with native birds that will serenade you as you bike through the twists and turns of the old mountain tracks.
In the distance you can see the unforgettable coast line before taking some time to immerse yourself in the sights of the Okato Stony River where you can watch the surfers, explore the walkways or have a coffee at the Boutique Stony River Hotel and Country Diner. As you continue on your way down the coastal highway, you will be greeted by the Cape Egmont Lighthouse, which indicates Taranaki’s most western point, where it has been operating since 1877.
As you approach Opunake you will smell the fresh sea air and hear the waves crashing down on the shore, where you will have a range of options such as checking out the local shopping, sinking your toes into the sand at the beach, or having a coffee at the Headlands Café. This bike ride is truly a ride for your senses and perfect for someone who appreciates a spectacular view.
