Wildlife Sanctuary

Wildlife Sanctuary

Discover one of Central Taranaki’s best kept gems. Depart from New Zealand’s only working Glockenspiel and cycle past the old Ngaere Cheese Factory to take in a slice of history. See up close the Cheal Road Production Station as you cycle your way past the site. In a huge contrast, you will soon discover the seclusion and serenity of Lake Rotokare.

As you approach you are greeted by large gates, which keep out any pests to ensure that the lake and its surroundings are kept in pristine condition so the native wildlife can thrive. Watch the boats on the lake or if you still want more adventure, take the 45-minute walk around the entire lake so you can take in all of its glory and see the dedication that has gone into making this one of Taranaki’s best lakes.

Take a picnic so you can relax and watch the hours slip away as you immerse yourself within this sanctuary of nature and beauty. This would be a perfect summer time ride for anyone who wants a gentle challenge with a great reward at the end of it.
